Performance Pillars

Pillars of the Performance Program

Baseball New Zealand has adopted a systematic approach to long-term athlete development. This comprehensive system is designed to create effective player development outcomes and produce athletes who can thrive in any performance environment.

Five pillars define the performance pathway and support the system

Building A Baseball Athlete

Five elements underpin Baseball NZ's development of a performance baseballer.

HAUORA  -  Is the combined physical, mental & emotional, social and spiritual well-being of an individual.  When an athlete's hauora is balanced their enjoyment and performances are elevated.

PHYSICAL  -  Baseball-specific fitness and conditioning  -  strength, speed, power, agility, mobility, recovery & nutrition

TECHNICAL  -  Baseball-specific skill requirements and the ability to execute a skill at the required level  -  pitching, hitting, catching, and fielding proficiency.

TACTICAL  -  The tactical requirements to execute technical skills proficiently, under pressure  -  How the athlete understands the game.  A player's baseball IQ.

MENTAL  -  Developing mental skills, confidence, resilience, & discipline aligns with personal growth and elevated performances  -  Think like a champion, train like a champion, play like a champion.
